The teddy bear is one of the most popular toys currently and has been for centuries. Antique teddy bears are starting to become even more popular as well. But there is more to an antique bear than the manufacturer and the age of the bear. If you purchase wisely, you will find a truly rare gem.
Be sure to research the price before buying. A price guide will give you a rough idea of what you should be paying. But remember, price will vary based on the condition of the bear. Don’t forget to look at the overall condition of the antique steiff teddy bears. Check for any imperfections hidden underneath clothing and make sure the eyes and joints are the originals. For a high price, the bear must have its original parts.
Determine what manufacturer the bear is. Steiff teddy bears are the most expensive and coveted, but many others also fetch a high price. Find out if there’s a label. Often parents will cut the labels off when gifting them to small children, but the bear is worth much more if the label is there. Know the age and availability of the bear. Rare and older bears are worth more. Finally, ask if the teddy bear comes with supporting documentation. If there is anything that accurately dates the bear, it will definitely be worth more in resale.

My 10 year old daughter discovered Steiff bears at a gift shop before Christmas and she adores them! Loves them! Dresses them in American Girl clothes and puts them to sleep in the American Girl bed that she got for the same birthday.
These are better than the mohair Steiff bears. The mohair bears are picky to touch and cost prohibitive; a 3"-4" bear is about $100.00. But these are clever, fun and snuggly. I think that they are for kids who are in the 8-10 year age group because they are a bit pricey but they are cute and well made. They aren't the stuffies to end up in the bottom of the toybox: they are better to set up on the bookshelf when they aren't being played with. They come with a cardboard suitcase that they can fit into or their accessories can be kept in it too.
Steiff also makes other animals but she chose to collect the bears exclusively; I look forward to buying them for her until she outgrows them.
I like them more than Webkinz because she uses HER OWN IMAGINATION instead of the computer generated games/fun.

Christmas teddy bears can be the best and most personal gift you could ever give. Not only are they cute, but also you can pair the bear with just about anything else imaginable. They are also appropriate for any recipient. Adults will like the thought and children will love their cuddly new friend.
First and foremost you should find a bear that reminds you of the person in some way. Maybe they have dark brown hair, so a dark brown bear would be perfect. Or the person may love the color blue; there are plenty of adorable blue bears around. Dressing the bear employs a similar concept. Shop around at the local thrift store and find some clothes in the children’s section that looks like something the recipient would wear.
Now that your bear is properly dressed it needs to have the right accessories. Ask yourself what it is about the person you’re gifting it to that really sticks out. Maybe they love coffee, or music. Perhaps it’s their birthday or the gift is for an anniversary. Going to the toy store or the thrift store will unearth mountains of miniature plastic items that will be perfectly suited to your personalized teddy bear. For example, a cute little coffee mug or a birthday cake. The possibilities end when your imagination does.

In the world of teddy bears, cheap does not always mean poor quality. While you can certainly go to one of the most popular websites and spend hundreds of dollars if you wish, but it is hardly necessary when there are so many options for fabulous cheap teddy bears.
One of the best options for these teddy bears is looking for a company that sells at a wholesale price. Now, most of the time they will require large quantities to be purchased in order to get that price. But most of the time, even without the bulk quantity you can get a much cheaper price than you would with another company. To further personalize this brand new bear, simply buy the accessories you would like separately. Almost everything you could want can be found at the toy store or a children’s shop. Or you can always make your own.
With that in mind why not just make your own teddy bear? If you have some basic sewing skills, go out and buy some fabric, a pattern and some stuffing. Or, if you lack sewing skills, there are plenty of patterns for crochet or knit bears. They will mean a lot to the person you’re gifting them too and you’ll have some fun creating it.
